RAT CITY: Ratocracy
Welcome to the dirt. RAT CITY: Ratocracy is a colony management sim that hands you control of a subterranean rat civilization and a single, urgent brief: keep production flowing and the Ratizens content enough to keep buying. Inspired by city builders and cozy survival sims, the game folds resource management, job assignments and a darkly comic take on consumer demand into one twitchy, strategic package.
A Sink or Swim Rat Colony
You run the colony from below ground where life is safer, at least from surface predators. Your rats gather raw Ratsources, refine them, turn them into goods and then distribute those goods back into the population. That loop is the motor of the game. When it spins smoothly, the colony hums. When it stalls, chaos follows.
The game leans on familiar systems without pretending to be anything but a rodent-flavored brutality test. Assign rats to rooms, build production chains and balance costs against the ever rising appetite of your population. Ratisfaction is the analog to happiness and employment rolled into one gauge. Let it fall and rats will move out or cause trouble. Keep it up and they will keep producing - until they die.
Ratisfaction and the Production Loop
Ratisfaction sits at the center of your choices. It is not only a mood meter. It is the social contract that keeps your colony functioning. You must provide food, work and things to consume. Those things cost resources. That is where your production chain comes in.
Key systems to manage include:
- Gather, refine, manufacture: Extract Ratsources, convert them into materials and assemble finished products to sell to the population.
- Colony jobs: Assign rats to farming, mining, construction, praying, defending and more. Each room needs staffing to keep operations running.
- Balance and placement: Production costs and building layout affect efficiency. Thoughtful design reduces waste and keeps outputs high.
There is a grim humor in the loop. The more you feed demand, the more demand grows. The cycle is self reinforcing. That is the point.
Underground Life and Expeditions
RAT CITY takes place below the surface. Above ground is where the Great Rat Wars rage and where predators roam. Staying buried protects your workforce but does not remove risk. Fires, toxic gas, famine and incursions from techno enhanced foes are constant threats. Death is an operational consideration.
Exploration plays a role too. You can plan expeditions to the surface to scavenge rare loot and resources to bolster your manufacturing capabilities. Those runs are risky but can yield the supplies needed to satisfy an ever more demanding population.
And yes, there is a currency element called CHz. You must earn CHz for the glory of the Rat Empire and probably to pay for those shiny consumer items your rats crave.
Modes, Difficulty and What to Expect
RAT CITY offers multiple ways to play. Campaign mode frames objectives, while a Freeflow mode lets you build with fewer constraints. Challenge modes present tight restrictions for players who enjoy doing more with less. Difficulty is customizable so you can choose whether you want a cozy build session or a punishing economy puzzle.
Expect a game that rewards planning and punishes complacency. The tone mixes cheeky humor with real stakes. Every production line you add brings satisfaction and more mouths to feed. Every shortcut invites disaster.
RAT CITY: Ratocracy is a love letter to strange sims and the people who enjoy optimizing systems with a side of gallows humor. The rats are pleased, the CHz are awaiting and the dirt is ready for your city.
