Seaways Puts You at the Helm of a Shipping Empire

Seaways is a shipping line sim with a twist. You do more than manage contracts and buy ships. When one of your vessels comes into port you can take the helm, ring the engine telegraph, and physically bring her alongside. Loaded ships have no brakes. Tugs, currents, crosswinds, fog and night traffic all have a say, and success is a mix of timing, judgement and a steady hand.

You start small. One old coaster in Istanbul. From there you pick contracts for general cargo, containers, oil, bulk, reefers and project loads, buy other ship types, hire captains to run routes while you sail, open an office and expand your company presence. Take a risky manual port arrival for a tip and a reputation boost, or pay for a pilot and tugs when the stakes are high.

Dock Every Ship Yourself

The docking mechanics are the headline act. Use the engine telegraph to let the ship carry her way, bring her alongside slow and parallel, then send bow, stern and spring lines ashore. Bigger vessels and trickier berths demand more finesse. The Harbor School eases you in with forgiving early lessons and no timers, but later chapters and big ships in wind will punish sloppy handling.

There are 214 hand-made harbor jobs in an arcade-style structure, each with three stars and leaderboards for the fastest undamaged runs. You can also free sail any harbor with any vessel, from motorboats up to an aircraft carrier, and chase postcard challenges for fun. When a ship of yours arrives you decide: helm for reputation and a tip, or hire a pilot and tugs if you prefer the insurance.

Build a Global Shipping Line

The company side is calm and considered. Pick routes, take mortgages, buy terminals and fight for the best cargo before rivals do. There are 8 commercial ship types and room for a fleet of up to 40 vessels. As your reputation grows you unlock 12 regions, from the Marmara to the Caribbean and the Pacific.

Seaways features 82 stylized versions of real ports. Expect Haydarpaşa and the Golden Horn with their ferries, Rotterdam at night and the Berendrecht lock, Hamburg's Elbe, Gibraltar, Singapore, Sydney and the Panama Canal. Each harbor is laid out like the real thing, with cranes on quays, tank farms set back, and cityscapes behind. The game cycles day, sunset and night, and after dark the lamps and lighthouses reflect in the water.

Arcade, Free Sailing and Accessibility

The Harbor School gets you started with a forgiving pace. Arcade chapters ramp difficulty and include multi-tug tows and lock jobs. Company bookkeeping pauses whenever you want, so you can focus on piloting without pressure. There is no combat.

Controls work with keyboard, mouse or gamepad, all fully rebindable. Accessibility options include reduced motion, high contrast and a three-quarter-speed slow mode. The interface and audio support make it approachable, and the game is playable in 30 languages.

Seaways is a neat blend of precision ship handling and slow-burn business strategy. If you have ever wanted to name a fleet, hire captains and personally shepherd a laden tanker into a tricky berth at night, this one is made for you.
