Tails & Talons: Elemental Card Combos, Furry Heroes, and a Very Bad Tower
Tails & Talons is a card-driven descent into a hostile, memory-dripping tower. Every card is an attack, a spell, or both, and the trick is to chain the right pieces together like a poker hand so small scratches become lethal blows. You play as one of a crew of furry adventurers, each with their own motives, united by the same goal: reach the bottom.
Combat leans into matching and chaining. With only 5 Elements and 4 Runes, powerful combos are always within reach if you plan your hand right. Slot the right cards together, rack up higher numbers on each hit, and watch your attacks scale in satisfying ways.
How the Combos Work
Cards are not just single-use actions. Each one carries elemental identity and rune markers that can pair with the cards that come before and after it. Think of your turn as assembling a miniature poker hand: flushes and straights might not mean the same thing here, but matching elements and runes produces escalating damage and effects.
Because every card can be an attack and a spell, your choices are rarely binary. Do you play a modest attack to preserve a larger combo next turn, or do you cash out a spell now and rely on trinket synergies later? The system encourages both short-term tactical thinking and longer-term combo planning.
Deckbuilding, Trinkets and Spells
Matching-combos are only part of the story. You can lean into pure spellcraft, stuffing your deck with spells that generate recurring value, or mix in trinkets that alter how combos multiply. Trinkets are the swingy elements here - a few well-chosen items can turn linear damage into exponential output.
The game rewards experimentation. Load your deck to support a single repeating combo, or diversify and look for surprise interactions. Documenting trinkets and spells as you find them helps you understand what fits your build and what will push numbers into absurd territory.
Meet the Crew
The cast is a crew of furry adventurers, each designed around a distinct playstyle. Two called-out examples are the Meowgician and the Haretic. The Meowgician stacks the same combo repeatedly to compound damage, turning repetition into a reliable win condition. The Haretic plays dangerously, flirting with low health and using sacrifice-based mechanics to hit prime-number thresholds that trigger devastating bursts.
Other heroes follow the same philosophy of distinct hooks and build identities. The variety promises multiple approaches to the same tower, from safety-first spell builds to glass-cannon, high-roll strategies.
The Tower and Progression
Something built the tower, and it was not kind. Every floor down, the walls remember older, hungrier things, and enemy encounters become more twisted as you descend. Progression is not only about loot and levels but also about knowledge. The game tracks creatures, trinkets, and spells, letting you catalogue forbidden lore as you go.
Tails & Talons blends card-combo satisfaction with roguelike risk. Whether you prefer precise combo engineering, trinket-driven ramp, or heroic self-sacrifice, the tower gives you room to test strategies and iterate. If you like card systems that reward pattern recognition and greed for bigger numbers, this one is worth watching.
