Aethercore: Take Back Your Soul in a Neon Cyberpunk ARPG
Immortality is for sale, and you are running out of time. Aethercore drops you into a grim cyberpunk city where Aether Corp turned eternal life into a business model, and now your own soul has been hijacked. The game blends real-time sword combat with a magic system called Aethermagic, offering close-quarters thrill and tactical spellcasting as you cut through robotic sentries, mercenary ninjas, and undead abominations to peel back the corporation's layers.
Real-Time Action Combat
Combat in Aethercore is fast and readable. You slash to generate Aethermagic, then spend that resource to cast spells that change the flow of battle. Timing is important - parry and dodge windows let you avoid heavy hits and punish enemies, while jumps and movement are used to evade projectiles and reposition against larger threats. Boss encounters are flagged as tougher tests of timing and adaptation rather than just bigger health bars.
The enemy roster mixes machine and human threats. Robotic guards and AECO security constructs bring predictable attack patterns that you can learn and exploit. Mercenary ninjas provide quick, lethal pressure that rewards precise parries and counters. And then there are the undead and other horrors born of AECO experiments, which add variety to the encounters and the city's tone.
Build Your Playstyle
Aethercore gives you space to experiment. You can equip up to four Aethermagic spells and a single Sword Art, which lets you lean into different approaches. Play aggressive with offensive magics that boost damage and pressure, or build control kits with support spells that debuff enemies or manipulate the battlefield. There are even summoning options if you prefer companions to distract foes while you strike from clever angles.
Customization feels focused - you choose a handful of tools that define how you approach each fight instead of juggling dozens of superficial stats. That design keeps encounters meaningful and your choices impactful.
An Interconnected City to Roam
Aethercore is not just a gauntlet of combat arenas. The city is built as an interconnected playground - forgotten underground labyrinths, corporate zones bristling with security, and alleys that hide small secrets. Exploration rewards you with hidden treasures, upgrades, and lore fragments that flesh out AECO's rise and the cost of purchased immortality.
Aside from the main thread of reclaiming your soul, the open parts of the city encourage detours. Traversal and environmental navigation matter as much as combat choices, and uncovering shortcuts can make later runs smoother.
Side Quests and the Premise
AECO commodified souls by transferring them into robotic shells. High-end units are reserved for elites; everyone else gets basic models that often chain humans into debt and servitude. To enforce their power, AECO hires lethal ninjas and runs clandestine science programs that produce monstrous results.
You wake up in an underground facility with fragmented memory. Your soul is gone and time is slipping away. The city is full of people with odd jobs and bounties who need help - take these side quests to earn credits for upgrades and to learn more about AECO's secrets.
Solo Dev, Features and Platforms
Aethercore is being made by a solo developer. Current plans include possible additions like PS5 controller support, achievements, and cloud saves as development continues. Steam Deck support is planned and minimum specs may change during the project's life cycle. Because this is an active solo project, details and timelines could shift.
If you like sword-and-spell action wrapped in a neon moral mess, Aethercore is one to watch as it develops.
