DinerDeck: Precision Cooking Meets Roguelike Deckbuilding

DinerDeck is a turn-based cooking roguelike deckbuilder where your best strategy is a sharp eye for recipes and even sharper timing on the counter. Pick up to five ingredient cards, build exact dishes, and decide which customer gets the plate. Do that well enough across seven escalating nights and you survive. Fail and you end up serving a regrettable Mixed Soup.

How a Service Works

Each service is a puzzle with limits. You choose up to five cards from your hand, assign the completed plate to one of the customers waiting at the counter, and use one of your limited Serve actions. There is no real-time pressure. The game is fully turn-based so you can pause, do the math, and plan the perfect order.

Match an unlocked recipe exactly and those ingredient cards become a true dish with recipe bonuses. Get the combination wrong or use a recipe you have not unlocked and you will serve Mixed Soup with no recipe bonus. Ingredients are not infinite either. Every card you serve is permanently consumed from your Pantry for the rest of the run, so each choice has long-term consequences.

Match Recipes and Read Your Customers

This is where the game flips from comfy kitchen to tactical counter. Customers do not value every ingredient equally. One may pay heavily for Egg, another rewards Bread, and a third only cares that the plate uses exactly five ingredients. Before you commit to serving, compare the projected result across all customers and pick the one that maximizes your score.

Score is calculated as Taste × Hype, and what goes into those factors can change wildly. Recipe levels, enhanced cards, Equipment, Supplies, and customer preferences can turn the same five-card plate into very different outcomes. A Classic Burger example given by the designers needs 2 Bread + 1 Beef + 1 Tomato. That four-card plate can score big for the right customer, but remember those ingredients will be gone for future services.

Midnight Market, Special Guests, and the Run

Every night ends with a final service handled by a Special Guest. Their rule applies to the whole counter and can invalidate what worked all night - no Meat, no Bread, no repeated recipes, exactly three ingredients, and other conditions force pivot plays on the last service. Between services you spend the night's earnings at the Midnight Market to restock consumables, unlock new recipes, level existing recipes, and buy Equipment and Supplies. Card enhancements let you tune specific ingredients or recipes as the run grows harder.

The market and your Pantry are a balancing act. A focused Pantry biases draws toward the cards you want, but serving those cards removes them from circulation. Buy too much and your deck gets bloated and unreliable. Buy too little and you risk running dry mid-night.
