Step into the Hollow Fair
Eightfold drops you at the gates of a carnival that should not exist. The premise is simple on the surface and deliciously complicated underneath: build poker hands from a deck that mutates as you progress, stack Jokers into absurd scoring engines, and push your score as high as you can. Between rounds you spend winnings at stalls, pick up new Jokers, Magic Tricks, and Boosters, sign Pacts you might regret, and try your luck at attractions that play off your deck.
The Hollow Fair rewards risk. Powerful deals hand out big boons, but they can leave Curses behind that twist how your cards behave. Embrace the chaos or fight it - either way, every choice pulls the run in a new direction.
Poker Hands, Jokers, and Broken Engines
The core loop uses familiar poker semantics but bends them into a roguelike deckbuilder. You build hands from an increasingly strange deck, aiming for combinations that chain into high-scoring outcomes. Jokers are the real wildcards here. With more than 180 Jokers available, each with unique abilities - from carnival snacks and sideshow acts to things better left unnamed - the ways to combine them are almost endless.
There are over 20 Decks that fundamentally change how you play, along with Boosters, Tags, Stickers, Enhancements, Card Borders, and Joker Editions that warp your Jokers and your deck further. Stack multiple Jokers, craft ridiculous synergies, and watch scoring engines emerge that feel both emergent and engineered.
Stalls, Pacts, and the Cost of Winning
Between acts the fair is yours to explore. Spend winnings at stalls to pick up Jokers, Magic Tricks, Boosters, and Vouchers that grant permanent upgrades for the current run. Sign Pacts for powerful but often double-edged rewards. Try carnival attractions that interact with your deck - for example, stacking cards of the same suit can increase your chance at a big payoff.
Consumables are plentiful too: 22 Magic Tricks and 22 Pacts let you bend a single round or reshape an entire run. Every Joker offer, curse roll, and pact choice can send a run into strange new territory. The library preserves what you find across runs so progression feels meaningful and discovery remains a constant.
Eight Gods, Eight Finales
The carnival culminates in showdowns with the fair's eight masked patrons. Each of these patrons brings a finale that rewrites the rules you've been relying on - stage effects mutate, boss mechanics break expectations, and tiers escalate the challenge. Defeat a patron, take their soul, and claim boons, but remember: the biggest rewards come at a cost.
Eight distinct Curses can infest your cards, turning familiar tools into liabilities. Boss fights, stage modifiers, and the shop attraction system all encourage adapting your strategy rather than repeating a single formula.
A Run That Truly Never Plays the Same
With deep unlock progression, handcrafted art drenched in dark carnival atmosphere, and a design that's quick to learn but ruthless to master, Eightfold leans hard into replayability. New Jokers, Decks, and secrets reveal themselves run after run, encouraging players to chase broken synergies and experiment with combinations most players will never see in a single session.
If you like deckbuilders that reward creativity and risk-taking, and you don't mind the occasional bargain that comes with a price in blood or cards, Eightfold looks built to keep players coming back to the midway long after the lights go down.
