ROUTE puts a school bus and four desperate survivors between you and the end of the world
ROUTE centers on a simple, terrifying premise. The world is locked in endless night, the dead walk, and the only thing that keeps your small crew moving is an old school bus. You loot ruined zones, craft what you need, and turn that bus into a rolling base, armory, and fortress. Every breakdown, every split-second decision, every pile of loot shared or hoarded changes the odds of making it to the next gate on the ROUTE.
Teamwork is not optional
This is a friends-first cooperative game. You and up to three others must coordinate driving, fighting, scavenging, and repairing. ROUTE uses proximity voice chat to keep communication organic and tense. Will your crew split up to clear a house for parts or stay together and risk being overrun by a horde? Someone has to watch the bus, someone has to carry fuel and parts, someone has to hold the line when things go bad.
Multiplayer is invite-only through Steam, so you bring the people you trust. If you want that particular kind of chaotic solitude, there is an offline single-player option for brave souls who prefer to be responsible for every mistake.
The bus is your home, and also everything else
The bus in ROUTE is more than a vehicle. It is storage, armory, workshop, and cunningly decorated refuge. Reinforce the hull, mount scavenged gear, build a roof deck where your crew can fight from higher ground, and personalize interiors and exteriors. Because your base is mobile, you literally roll your home into each new zone. That makes every decision about what to take with you consequential.
Keeping the bus running is a non-stop job. Fuel, spare parts, and upgrades are lifelines. Lose the bus or leave it behind and the world gets a lot harsher.
Drive on and learn each zone's rules
There is no safe route in ROUTE. Travel across abandoned suburbs, ruined cities, choked highways, farms, and backroads, each area offering different hazards and puzzles. Some zones let you barrel through. Others force you to park the bus and continue on foot. Remember where you parked, because your rolling base is also your escape.
Progression is gated. To reach the next zone you must find items or resources that unlock that gate. Each unlocked zone changes the rules, introducing new threats, loot locations, and optional or mandatory puzzles to solve.
Survival is action, not waiting
ROUTE pushes survival toward action. Scavenge weapons, ammo, fuel, and bus parts. Craft gear that gives you an edge when the horde closes in. Keep the bus armed, fueled, and moving. The game promises a wide pool of survival and weapon items, a cast of weird zombies to face, and meaningful choices about how to spend scarce resources.
