Deepstrata drops you into the hole

You are a contract driller for REGOLITH Deep Extraction. Load into a single-person mining pod, point your thrusters at the crust, and bite into meters of destructible rock. Fill your cargo bay, fight your weight, and climb back to the surface before the fuel gauge makes that call for you.

Deepstrata is built around tight, repeatable runs. Each successful haul funds a better drill, a stronger hull or a fancier rig. Fail and you lose the run. Succeed and you go deeper. The loop is simple on paper and savage in practice, because below the surface everything costs you.

The descent is the game

Every metre of strata is destructible and every metre costs you fuel. Once you pass the surface line your fuel starts burning, cargo weight fights your thrusters, and the world starts to push back. Undermine a boulder and it drops on you, with fall distance turning into pain. Bite into a gas pocket and it can erupt, and pockets touching it can chain into a serious problem.

Plain dirt is rarely plain. Buried caches can hide a hidden vein, a gush of fuel, a relic, or a lava seep that turns your run into an emergency exit. The tension is mechanical and spatial: pick a promising seam and risk a collapse, or play it safe and watch richer veins slip away.

Read the rock and master strata formations

Deepstrata layers something extra into the geology it calls living Strata formations. These are seeded into ordinary rock and each one has a rule you can learn and exploit. Some examples from the brief include relieving fractured stress nodes, venting pressurised seams, quenching thermal cores and bracing brittle shelves.

Work one cleanly and you earn a mastery bonus on top of the ore you extract. Rush it and the formation will turn on you. That design rewards slow learning and deliberate runs: the better you read the rock the more efficient and safer your expeditions become.

Contracts, difficulty and the choice to fight or feed

Missions come as named contracts across four sites plus an open contract. There is Certification on Luna Proving Grounds for gentle first descents. The Mars Contract at Outpost Karga doubles as a classic run and a search for a lost beacon. Ember Harvest on Io centers on thermal cores and lava. The Cold Archive on Callisto is slow ice drilling with gas pockets and forward bases. Site Omega - The Rift is the bedrock maze that includes every hazard and the STRATA-9 Guardian. The Open Contract - Mars Deep is a depth-focused run with no quotas and is available from the start.

Each site has a guardian sleeping in its own chamber until the final mission opens. You can choose to wake it by attacking or avoid combat by hauling down an offering it wants. If you do fight, expect volleys, dashes, slam shockwaves and collapsing ceilings as part of the encounter.

Contracts deploy at Peaceful, Standard, Hard or Brutal. Higher difficulty ramps up odds against you, seismic storms and nastier caches, while rewarding more XP. Peaceful is explicitly a no-combat survey charter - guardians will never wake, veins run richer and hazards are gentler. If you just want to focus on mining and reading formations, that mode is there for you.

Deepstrata pairs the claustrophobic immediacy of single-run drills with a campaign of contracts, upgrades and escalating choices. Bring a full tank and a steady hand; the crust makes its own rules.
