Random & Unfair Battlefields: When the Map Decides to Betray You
Random & Unfair Battlefields is a fantasy RTS that leans into unpredictability. Matches unfold on freshly generated worlds, every morning brings a new global event, and your troops are free agents who make a mess of your carefully laid plans. Your role is less about issuing orders and more about choosing when to tilt fate in your favour with royal Decrees.
A Battlefield That Changes on You
Every match generates a new arena and each new day rolls a fresh event. You might wake to dragons circling the skies, meteor showers scarring the land, goblins raiding your supply lines, or floods eating your farms. These events can be threats or opportunities. Slay a dragon and it may fight for you. Watch a mountain crumble and suddenly you have a new route to your enemy. With randomized maps and daily events, no two battles play out the same.
No Orders, No Micromanagement
This is not your typical click-and-micro RTS. Units act autonomously: they explore, form warbands, engage enemies, lay siege to buildings, and retreat when wounded. Your influence comes through controlling the structures that muster troops, choosing upgrades, and issuing Decrees from your royal deck. It flips the usual skill set - success rewards strategic planning and adaptability, not rapid APM.
Factions and Royal Decrees
There are four distinct factions, each with their own flavour and royal abilities.
- Woodland Elves: call beasts and nature allies to your side.
- Cursed Undead: use dark rituals and sacrifices to empower armies.
- Radiant Knights: bolster units with blessings and support magic.
- Mountain Dwarves: crank out siege engines and durable fortifications.
Each faction has a deck of 19 Decrees. Six Decrees are drawn each day into your hand. The pool across the game amounts to 76 unique faction abilities to experiment with. Play a Treant summon, strike lightning from the sky, grant wings to a regiment, or drill new paths through stone. Timing and choice shape a match more than direct unit commands.
Follow Your Heroes and Design Your Kingdom
Units gain experience in battle and eventually reach max rank to become Heroes. Heroes are named and their deeds tracked for the remainder of the game, adding personality and a narrative thread to otherwise chaotic fights. Beyond units, the Kingdom Designer gives you tools to customise the look of your realm, and the game records stats and match history so you can follow trends and memorable moments.
Who This Is For
If you like large-scale fantasy battles but find traditional micromanagement exhausting, this title offers a fresh alternative. Players who enjoy emergent systems, memorable events, and games that force you to improvise will find a lot to like. The multiplayer focus and randomized daily events mean well-tuned strategies will often be tested by pure luck - and then you adapt.
Random & Unfair Battlefields is intentionally chaotic, and it leans into that chaos with design choices that make randomness meaningful rather than merely frustrating. Pick your faction, muster your forces, and learn to love - or exploit - the unfairness.
