Unburied - Stand the Watch Against a Dead King's Procession

The king is dead, but his funeral never ends. In Unburied a legion ferries the corpse home every night, and the procession wakes every grave along the road. Your job is blunt and brutal: build by day, hold the line by night, and keep the embers inside the dead from burning the world.

This is a 1-4 player co-op survival tower-defense roguelite where every dusk forces a choice. Do you fortify a chokepoint, hunt supplies, or gamble on a risky tower? Fail to hold until dawn and the night swallows the keep. Succeed and the embers go out inch by inch, ash claiming the dead the sun once warmed.

Build by Day, Hold the Line by Night

Daylight is a clock and a resource. Split your party to scout, scavenge, and raise palisades, arrow towers and campfires while the light lasts. Resources are scarce and every wall is a decision. At dusk the horde closes and you fall back to the line you built.

Combat is frontline-first. The captain fights at the gate with the militia, issuing simple but crucial orders: rally, hold, attack. There is no hiding in the rear. Warcries, charges, arrow storms and frost orbs all belong to the front - all five classes fight where the militia fights, and the militia looks to you for direction.

Co-op Without Barriers

Unburied scales for solo play or up to three friends. Share a room code or browse open lobbies and join a stranger's vigil - no Steam friendship required, no invitation needed. If someone disconnects mid-night, the game pauses automatically so no one gets left behind.

Difficulty scales with party size, so teamwork matters. Each player can bring captains and choices to the fight; the game lets you mix veterans and fresh recruits at the gate. Playstyles collide and complement, whether you chain halberd pike walls or set up a rain of arrows to thin the procession.

A Roguelite That Fights Back

Every dawn and every level hands you a fresh pick of cards that change how your vigil will play out. Options include squad tweaks, skills, gear and doctrines. Between nights you shape your force in the keep:

  • The Armory: Named arms and relics in five quality tiers. Gear is earned in battle and retained across your account. Build around matching bonds like the Hearth Oath, the Red-Moon Hunt and the Siege Compact for stronger synergies.
  • Squad Doctrine: Choose how each militia line operates before battle - pike wall or halberds, scatter-guns or long rifles.
  • Ascension: Transform captains at the Heroes' Altar. Ten ascension paths across five classes, each with its own ultimate - from Templar to Blood Warlord to Arrowstorm Lord.
  • Dawn Seals & the Watch Chronicle: Earn seals for nights survived and spend them on tactics, fortifications and rewards. Every run cuts deeper.
  • The Quartermaster: One example dawn card raises your morning supply bonus by 40% - small edges that stack over many vigils.

You can keep up to three captains per class, each progressing independently. Bring a max-level knight alongside a fresh mage and keep building legacy even if the keep falls. Progress secured at your last dawn is written into each captain's record.

Nights You Will Remember

Unburied leans into set-piece nights and escalating dread. A few examples from the field:

  • The Bursting Front - A lashed-bone colossus wakes and drives into your siege line. Break its support, seal breaches, and hold until the relief column arrives.
  • The Blood-Moon Hunt - Hordes come from every direction with named elites and bounties. Rescue besieged survivors to bolster your defence and win sealed war-caches.
  • The Last March - The earth opens at the altar and the king who refused rest rises to face you himself.
  • The Eternal Night - An endless watch where dawn never truly comes. Climb the Vigil Ranks, claim boons, and test how many nights your line can withstand.

Each battleground shifts the horde composition and siege tactics. Expect mourners who sing and shield their dead, raiders who vault your walls, and siege engines like plague catapults and bone ballistas.

World, Tone and Presentation

Unburied serves top-down pixel art wrapped in grim folk-horror and a blood moon overhead. The story is carried by Holt, your lieutenant, and the survivors you meet along the march. Text support includes English, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese.

It is as much about the mood of a never-ending funeral road as it is about sharp defensive decisions. The visuals and encounters lean on atmosphere and mounting tension: every ember taken back at dawn is a tiny victory against the night.

Wishlist Unburied - and hold the line until dawn.
