CottageCore Lets You Shape a Village Down to the Chimney

CottageCore is a cozy building game about making a place of your own and caring for the people who live there. The core idea is refreshingly tactile: sculpt terrain, tweak proportions, pick materials and details, then watch villagers and animals settle into the world you made. It is as much about the look of your glade as it is about the rhythms of community life through summer, rain and winter.

Shape the Glade

Building in CottageCore is not just about plopping down prefabs. You can adjust proportions for cottages and towers, choose materials and colors, and shape roofs. Combine stone and plaster, add timber framing, then layer on details like doors, windows, dormers, chimneys, lanterns and ivy. You can even customize window frames and glass. For a touch of whimsy, cottages and towers can float on clouds.

Tools extend beyond buildings. The game gives you terrain-shaping tools and construction pieces like walls, fences, stairs, bridges, paths and ponds. All of this is designed to let your glade feel personal, whether you prefer a humble cluster of cottages or a castle perched above the trees.

A Living Ecosystem

Around your creations the world moves on its own schedule. Deer, rabbits, sheep and chickens feed, drink, find mates, raise young and grow old. Songbirds and frogs visit, and a fox might slip into the glade at night. Day turns to night, rain and snow fall, ponds freeze and animals bed down for winter. Four unlockable companions - a dog, cat, capybara and swan - can join you and add charm to daily life.

The seasonal shifts do more than change visuals. Several trades pause when winter comes, and the environment affects movement and resources. The result is a village that feels alive rather than merely decorative.

Connected Trades

CottageCore ties building to social systems with fifteen villager trades. Lumberjacks, farmers, bakers, journalists and more have workplaces, production chains and storage. You set up their shops, organize supplies and plan ahead so the village can feed itself and fill stores for colder months.

That interconnection is important. Workplaces need space and materials, storage needs to be managed, and some jobs are seasonal. It is less about micromanaging every villager and more about creating a resilient, well-supplied community.

Two Ways to Play

Two distinct modes let you choose how hands-on you want to be. God of the Glade retains the simulation and a mana economy. Adding villagers, animals, trees and supplies uses a shared mana reserve. Mana is restored each morning by happy villagers, decorations on homes and priestesses. Food, water, shelter, firewood and winter stores keep things running. In this mode you shepherd your village through the seasons and prepare for winter together.

Creative mode removes mana costs, unlocks every trade, and lets you set the time of day and the season. It uses the same building tools and simulation so you can experiment with layouts, biomes and architectural styles without the survival constraints.

Systems and Quality of Life

CottageCore includes practical features players expect. There is undo and redo, autosave plus manual save and load, and Steam Cloud support. The game also has 83 Steam achievements for players who enjoy completion goals.

The interface balances freedom and management. Terrain shaping and building tools are designed for open creativity while the connected trades provide stakes and goals when you prefer a more directed experience.

A Cozy Place to Build and Care

CottageCore combines detailed, malleable building with a gentle simulation of village life and wildlife. Whether you want to float a tower on a cloud and watch songbirds arrive, or plan bakeries and lumberyards to survive the first snowfall, the game gives you the tools and systems to make it happen. It is a cozy sandbox with seasons, chores and community baked in.
