HALCYON INDUSTRIES has noticed unexplained phenomena around the world that seem to originate from "abnormal physical spaces" - the Backrooms. A.D.D. puts you in charge of the department set up to investigate them. Your job is equal parts logistics, risk management, and data wrangling: route expeditions, outfit teams, and turn whatever they bring back into the exact results corporate demands.
The premise is simple and a little unnerving. HALCYON insists safety comes first, but safety and company deliverables do not always agree. You are the one who has to balance both.
A.D.D. asks you to think like an operations manager for the uncanny. Build exploration routes by connecting employees to exploration areas, equipment, and nodes. Those connections determine what your teams encounter in the Backrooms and what sorts of records they can recover.
Routes matter. The order you visit areas in and the gear you bring change outcomes. The same employee can produce very different results depending on how you design a route. That makes personnel assignment strategic rather than rote: match skills and risk tolerance to the path you intend to run.
Recovered records are raw and not worth much on their own. A.D.D. makes refinement part of the loop. You pick materials and processing steps to transform expedition output into the precise datasets HALCYON needs. Only submitted, completed results earn you the resources and options for future assignments.
The system pushes you to optimize for what the company values, which may not line up perfectly with truth or safety. Managing throughput, choosing which findings to prioritize, and allocating limited lab capacity are core to keeping operations funded.
As investigations continue, A.D.D. layers in ethical and narrative friction. Unexpected choices appear and you will not be told what is true or whom to trust. You decide how to act - whether to prioritize worker safety, corporate objectives, or something in between - and live with the consequences.
Those decisions are not framed as clear-cut right or wrong answers. Instead they alter the kind of work you can do and the datasets you can produce, nudging the overall campaign in different directions.
Mechanically, A.D.D. is about iteration. Explore to collect unusual records. Refine what you bring back into forms the company recognizes. Submit to secure funding, unlock tools, and push deeper into the Backrooms. The tension between discovery and deliverable is what drives the loop: curiosity meets corporate metrics in a room that should not exist.
A.D.D. seems tailor-made for players who enjoy puzzle-like systems wrapped in management skin, especially when each expedition can change the narrative and the numbers you have to work with.
